We are here to help, listen to the circumstances of your emergency and advise you on the best course of treatment.
Depending on the emergency you are experiencing, we may need to schedule a same-day appointment. Sometimes, in fact, a same-hour appointment can be the difference between saving and losing a tooth. Please don’t make the decision on your own! Your smile is too important. Call Dr. Taba for reliable emergency dental service.
As mentioned before, having an emergency plan is important. With this in mind, Dr. Taba and his team would like to offer you some tips for how to handle different dental emergencies.
If we asked you to name one situation that you were certain is an emergency, you’d probably say a knocked out tooth. This is the emergency that requires immediate dental treatment in order to save the tooth. In the meantime, take the following steps:
- Gently rinse the tooth with warm running water. Be gentle, so any attached tissue is not removed.
- If you can, place the tooth back in its socket and bite down gently.
- If this isn’t possible, then submerse the tooth in a container of milk or a mild saline solution and head to our office.
Another obvious dental emergency is a broken or fractured tooth. If you can find the broken piece of tooth, rinse and place in milk. Use a cold compress to reduce facial swelling if the broken tooth is the result of a hard blow. Call our office and we’ll schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
A toothache is also a common occurrence that may or may not be an emergency. Try flossing around the tooth that’s bothering you in case there is a particle of food caught between your teeth. If this doesn’t work, then your toothache may be a sign of something more serious, such as a deeply cracked tooth, extensive tooth decay or even a tooth infection that requires root canal therapy. Call Dr. Taba and we’ll provide advice over the phone on how you can alleviate the pain.
