Dentures and Partials for Full Smiles in Seattle

Tooth loss can happen because of extensive decay, untreated gum disease that is allowed to advance, a traumatic injury, oral cancer or unusual wear and tear. According to the American College of Prosthodontists, there are more than 175 million people in American who are missing at least one tooth, and more than 35 million are edentulous, or do not have any teeth. And as baby boomers age, the number of people with missing teeth is expected to increase. Unfortunately, these numbers are little comfort if you happen to be one of these millions. You can, however, take comfort in knowing that Dr. Taba and his staff are skilled and experienced at tooth replacement with both full and partial dentures.

The consequences of tooth loss are both physical and emotional. Physically, even one missing tooth can lead to drifting teeth, more tooth loss and a greater risk of decay in other teeth. Beyond your mouth, tooth loss has been connected to malnutrition, diabetes and even some forms of cancer. Emotionally, a person dealing with tooth loss may also be contending with issues of lessened self-confidence and self-esteem. Thus, the need for tooth replacement becomes vital to your oral, general and psychological health.

Beautiful and Healthy Smiles with Dentures and Partials

For patients who are missing all of the teeth along one or both arches, Dr. Taba can create full dentures that will look completely natural and function normally. A denture consists of false teeth that are mounted on a gum-colored base. Thanks to numerous advances in dental prosthetic technology as well as the materials used to fabricate dentures, these oral devices fit better and are more comfortable than ever. Dr. Taba carefully designs dentures to fit smoothly along your gums. Of course, everyone who receives dentures will need some time to adapt. And along with natural suction, your tongue and cheeks will need to “learn” how to keep your dentures in place. However, if there seems to be a spot or two that are sensitive, be sure to inform Dr. Taba, so he can adjust the denture to fit more comfortably.

If you are missing one or several teeth, whether consecutively or not, there is a partial denture for replacement. A partial fits between your remaining teeth and is held in place with clasps or brackets that attach to those teeth. Like a full denture, a partial consists of pontics (false teeth) set on a base.

Both full and partial dentures require special hygienic care. Brush your dentures daily with a denture brush and water. Never use toothpaste, which may contain small particles that can scratch the false teeth or base of your dentures. Be sure to remove your dentures when you sleep at night, so your gums can rest and be bathed in saliva. Store your dentures in water overnight to prevent warping.

Call us today for an appointment. We offer dentures and partials to people from Seattle, Kenmore, Mill Creek, Bothell, Woodinville, Juanita, Lake Forest Park, Shoreline, Mountlake Terrace, and all surrounding areas.
