Dos and Don'ts before the Root Canal Procedure

Has your dentist asked you to undergo a root canal procedure? You might be wondering about dos and don'ts. So, here we are with the common things you should do and don't in case you are getting a root canal treatment.

A root canal therapy is performed if the tooth's root is too infected and needs to get the infection removed as soon as possible. This stage might be very painful. But with this treatment, you can save your dying tooth and get a huge relief from the pain.

What are the Dos?

  • Scared? Tell about it to your dentist!

If you are afraid of the dentist or have dental anxiety thinking about the procedure, then talk about it with your dentist. You don't have to feel ashamed about it, as many people out there feel the same. At Amin Tabatabaian DDS PLLC, we have sedation options to make you calm and comfortable the whole time you are on the dental chair.

  • No Painkillers!

If you experience pain before the procedure, others might suggest you take painkillers to avoid pain, but never ever do that. Our dentist might ask you the exact point where you feel pain, but if you numb it beforehand, then it might be a mess during the treatment. Consume only the prescribed painkillers.

  • Get Enough Rest

In order to make your body heal faster, get sufficient rest and a good night's sleep before the procedure.

What are the Don'ts?

  • Stay away from Antibiotics.

Antibiotics can worsen the drug reactions while undergoing the procedure. But if the antibiotics you consume are unavoidable, then discuss them with the dentist. At Amin Tabatabaian DDS PLLC, our dentist will look into ways to avoid any worst reaction that may occur because of the medications.

  • Don't smoke or drink alcohol.

If you drink alcohol a night prior to the root canal treatment, then you may feel discomfort after the procedure as it reduces the body's healing ability. Your body and mind should be stable to handle the effects of the process. Nicotine may escalate the recovery time to an extent. Alcohol can also make your mouth dry and make it hard to perform therapy.
